New Firefly Petunia

Grower Direct Farms is growing the first ever glow-in-the-dark flower for your own garden! The Firefly Petunia is a genetically engineered petunia developed by synthetic biology startup, Light Bio. Light Bio used genes from bioluminescent tropical mushrooms to turn a standard white petunia by day into an otherworldly glowing wonder by night.  

These petunias, although special, can still be treated like any other petunia variety when it comes to care. Like other petunias, water as the soil starts to dry out and ensure at least 8 hours of direct sunlight, keeping in mind that the more light your petunia is exposed to during the day, the brighter they will glow at night.  

Another factor to consider when choosing a location to plant is light pollution from streetlights and other ambient light sources that will reduce the amount of glow you perceive from your Firefly Petunia. This may take some more creative thinking than your usual garden planning but will be well worth it! Consider pairing your Firefly Petunia with other white and silvery flowers such as Dusty Miller to create a moon garden.
