GDF is now supplying Southern New England with a variety of ornamental species of shrubs and trees! Our trees come in a range of sizes, from low-growing Spruce to towering Birch and Yoshino Cherry. We are pleased to also offer popular branded cultivars of shrubs, like Knockout Roses, Endless Summer Hydrangeas, and Encore Azaleas.
Trees and shrubs are a long-term investment offering multi-season enjoyment for many years to come, and with our competitively low costs, we can ensure GDF customers get the best possible deals.
Add color to your yard with shrubs like Forsythia and trees like Eastern Redbuds, which usher in Spring with vibrant flowers. Then plant Azaleas and Hydrangeas that bloom throughout the summer months. Evergreens like Rhododendrons and Junipers retain their classic foliage year-round, so you can enjoy them even in Winter!
Trees and shrubs are crucial for supporting local biodiversity, so you can feel extra good planting them in your garden. Early flowering species like Pussy Willows are one of the most important sources of nectar for the first emerging pollinators in Spring, and Summer-blooming trees and shrubs support bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
All our offerings are New England hardy. Trees and shrubs require a good amount of water when first planted to allow rooting, but once established, they are like perennials in that they become more self-sufficient with age. As an added benefit, most of our offered species require minimal pruning.
If you’d like to prune your trees and shrubs, we recommend late Winter for heavy pruning to allow for flushes of new growth in Spring. Light pruning can also be done in Summer, but make sure to leave some active growth points to avoid stunting future branching.
GDF’s trees and shrubs program is only being offered in southern New England for the time being, but we hope to expand both our shipments and variety offerings in the coming years.
